Overview
Update on recent surgical innovations and other advances developed within the Department of Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital. Specific areas covered will include Transplant, Vascular, Cardiac, Thoracic, Plastic & Reconstructive, Oncologic, and Bariatric Surgery. In addition, there will be presentations focusing on our surgical legacy at Henry Ford as well as our future.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe innovations in transplant surgery which have improved care for solid organ transplant patients.
  2. Describe the advantages of a beating heart cardiac transplant.
  3. Understand the techniques of balloon septostomy for treating aortic dissection.
  4. Appreciate the negative impact of environmental exposures on the health of individuals living in metro Detroit.
  5. Understand the definition of bioconvergence and how it might be used to develop innovative solutions in healthcare.
  6. Appreciate the advances Henry Ford has made in the modern treatment of necrotizing pancreatitis.
  7. Understand the role of micro-lymphatic surgery in the prevention of arm lymphedema following axillary node dissection.
  8. Appreciate the role of a Pancreas Center in improving the outcomes of pancreatic cancer.
  9. Understand the contemporary role of metabolic surgery.
