Overview
The Obesity Symposium: Advancing Obesity Care—Clinical Updates, Research Insights, and System Improvements is a multidisciplinary educational program designed to equip healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge and practical strategies in obesity management. This symposium will feature expert-led sessions on cutting-edge developments in obesity pharmacotherapy, including newly approved and emerging medications, their mechanisms of action, and considerations for clinical use. Attendees will also explore the complex relationship between obesity and cancer, with a focus on epidemiology, underlying biological mechanisms, and implications for prevention and screening. A dedicated session on women’s health will address the unique impact of obesity across the lifespan, including reproductive health, pregnancy, and menopause, while highlighting tailored treatment approaches. In addition, participants will gain insight into a system-wide quality improvement initiative, showcasing findings on obesity diagnosis and treatment, identifying gaps in care, and discussing strategies to enhance clinical practice. Through interactive discussions and a multidisciplinary panel, this symposium aims to foster collaboration, improve patient outcomes, and advance evidence-based, patient-centered obesity care.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand obesity as a chronic disease and apply updated treatment guidelines in clinical practice. The interactive educational setting also supports improved confidence in managing obesity with lifestyle interventions and emerging pharmacologic therapies.
  2. Evaluate current updates in GLP-1 receptor agonists, pharmacotherapy, and metabolic surgery for optimizing chronic obesity management.Identify common barriers to dietary adherence in patients using GLP-1 therapies and apply strategies to improve nutritional compliance and weight loss outcomes.
  3. Describe the intersection of obesity, cancer risk, and metabolic-bariatric surgery in improving long-term patient outcomes. Discuss the relationship between obesity, cardiometabolic health, and the role of metabolic surgery in disease prevention and treatment.
  4. Apply evidence-based, multidisciplinary approaches—including pharmacologic, surgical, and behavioral strategies—to optimize long-term obesity management.ntegrate multidisciplinary perspectives to enhance comprehensive, team-based obesity care across surgical, medical, and nutrition domains. Quality improvement initiatives aimed at increasing the diagnosis and treatment of obesity, including key findings and implementation lessons.
