Overview
The 50th Annual Emergency Medicine Alumni Conference addresses persistent practice gaps in the rapid recognition and management of time-sensitive, high-acuity conditions in the emergency department. Despite established guidelines and ongoing research, variability remains in the implementation of early goal-directed therapy for sepsis, timely stroke identification and treatment, evidence-based management of acute coronary syndromes, and optimal cardiac resuscitation strategies. In addition, the growing availability of novel biochemical markers and evolving therapeutic recommendations present challenges in clinical integration and decision-making. This activity will review current evidence and guideline-based recommendations for sepsis management, including practical implementation strategies and outcome considerations. Faculty will discuss advances in the diagnosis and emergency evaluation of acute stroke; updated therapeutic approaches and resuscitation strategies in acute coronary syndromes and cardiac arrest; and the appropriate application of emerging biochemical markers in emergency care. The program will also explore approaches to physician engagement and system-level strategies that support consistent, evidence-based practice. Designed for emergency physicians, advanced practice providers, residents, and other healthcare professionals involved in acute care, this conference aims to enhance competence, reduce variability in care delivery, and improve patient outcomes in the emergency setting.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe current evidence-based approaches to the management of critically ill patients in the emergency department, including sepsis and resuscitation strategies
  2. Apply best practices in the evaluation and management of common high-acuity emergency medicine presentations
  3. Discuss recent advances in the diagnosis and emergency treatment of acute stroke to support timely and effective intervention
  4. Demonstrate the appropriate use of point-of-care ultrasound to support diagnosis and clinical decision-making in the emergency setting
